Last Updated: 12/2025

Welcome to the North American Council of Utility Professionals (“NACUP,” “we,” “our,” or “us”). By accessing this website, creating an account, registering for a NACUP certification, or using any NACUP services, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions, along with all applicable NACUP policies referenced herein.

If you do not agree to these Terms, you may not access or use NACUP services.

1. Purpose of NACUP Certifications

NACUP certifications are voluntary, non-regulatory professional credentials designed to assess applied knowledge, professional judgment, and readiness for leadership roles in utility operations and capital program environments.

NACUP certifications are not licenses and do not guarantee employment, promotion, compensation, or regulatory qualification. Certification is intended to complement—not replace—employer training, licensure, or regulatory requirements.

2. Eligibility and Application

Candidates are solely responsible for confirming that they meet all published eligibility requirements prior to registration.

NACUP reserves the right to:

  • Audit eligibility submissions

  • Request additional documentation

  • Deny, suspend, or revoke eligibility or certification if misrepresentation, omission, or falsification is identified

Eligibility determinations made by NACUP are final.

3. Examination Integrity

All NACUP examinations are confidential, proctored assessments and constitute proprietary intellectual property of NACUP.

Candidates may not copy, record, reproduce, distribute, discuss, or disclose any examination content—before, during, or after testing—in any form.

Violations of examination security or candidate conduct standards may result in one or more of the following actions, at NACUP’s sole discretion:

  • Immediate examination termination

  • Invalidation of exam results

  • Revocation of certification

  • Permanent disqualification from future NACUP certifications

Such actions may occur with or without refund.

4. Exam Results and Appeals

Examination results are issued as a pass or fail determination following exam completion and administrative verification.

NACUP does not release:

  • Examination questions or answers

  • Item-level feedback

  • Detailed scoring methodologies

Score results are final. Appeals are limited to documented administrative or procedural irregularities and do not include challenges to exam content, scoring standards, or passing thresholds.

5. Certification Status

Certification is granted only upon successful completion of all applicable requirements.

NACUP reserves the right to suspend or revoke certification for:

  • Violations of Ethics & Professional Conduct

  • Examination misconduct

  • Misrepresentation of credentials

  • Actions that compromise certification integrity or public trust

Credential holders must represent NACUP certifications accurately and may not imply NACUP endorsement of employers, organizations, or products.

6. Fees and Refund Policy

All enrollment fees are non-refundable once examination access is issued.

NACUP does not guarantee examination availability on specific dates or times.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, NACUP shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or professional damages arising from participation in certification programs, examination performance, credential outcomes, or reliance on certification status.

NACUP’s total liability, if any, shall not exceed the amount paid directly to NACUP for the applicable certification.

8. Modifications and Policy Updates

NACUP reserves the right to update certification requirements, policies, procedures, and these Terms at any time to maintain certification integrity and align with industry best practices.

Continued use of NACUP services constitutes acceptance of all updates

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
