CUOCP® Recertification Policy

Purpose of Recertification
The CUOCP® recertification process ensures that credential holders continue to meet NACUP’s professional standards and remain engaged in the evolving responsibilities of utility operations and capital leadership.
Recertification reinforces:
Ongoing professional accountability
Continued relevance of the credential
Integrity and credibility of the CUOCP® designation
Recertification is a maintenance and governance process, not a re-examination.
Recertification Cycle
The CUOCP® credential is valid for a five (5) year certification cycle from the date of initial certification.
Credential holders must complete recertification requirements prior to the credential expiration date to maintain an Active status.
Recertification Requirements
To recertify, credential holders must:
Submit a recertification application
Attest to continued professional engagement in utility operations, capital programs, or related leadership roles
Confirm compliance with NACUP’s Ethics & Professional Conduct standards
Pay the applicable recertification fee
At this time, recertification does not require re-examination.
NACUP reserves the right to update recertification requirements in future cycles as professional standards evolve.
Recertification Fee
The CUOCP® recertification fee is:
$395 USD per certification cycle
The recertification fee supports:
Credential governance and oversight
Verification and registry maintenance
Policy review and updates
Ethics monitoring and enforcement
Ongoing certification administration
The recertification fee is non-refundable once processed.
Recertification Review and Approval
Recertification submissions are reviewed for completeness and compliance with NACUP policies.
NACUP may:
Approve recertification
Request additional information
Deny recertification if requirements are not met
Approval results in renewal of the CUOCP® credential for an additional certification cycle.
Credential Status Definitions
Active: Credential is valid and in good standing
Expired: Credential holder did not complete recertification by the deadline
Revoked: Credential withdrawn due to policy or ethics violations
Credential status is reflected in NACUP’s official verification records.
Lapsed Credentials
Credential holders whose certification has expired may be eligible for reinstatement within a defined reinstatement window, subject to:
Submission of required documentation
Payment of a reinstatement fee
Compliance with current NACUP policies
Reinstatement requirements and fees may differ from standard recertification.
Ethics and Professional Conduct
Recertification is contingent upon continued adherence to NACUP’s Ethics & Professional Conduct standards.
NACUP reserves the right to deny or revoke recertification if ethical violations or misconduct are identified.
Policy Updates
NACUP may update recertification policies, requirements, and fees as necessary to maintain certification integrity and align with industry best practices.
Credential holders are responsible for reviewing the most current version of this policy prior to recertification.
